Have you ever asked yourself about the difference between passion and destiny?
Many times we’ve heard that you should always follow your passions in life. Following your passions are important. But what if your passions take you away from your destiny?
This is a particularly important question when trying to align our lives with a higher purpose. So let’s explore this question deeper through faith and reflection.
Passion vs. Destiny: What’s the Difference?
Jesus said in Matthew 16:25, that “whosoever will save his life, shall lose it, and whoever shall lose his life, for my sake, shall find it.”
Your destiny will always be God’s call for fulfilling his purposes in this world. If we follow God’s calling, we must recognize that He always wants the best for our lives—and that your destiny is bigger than your passion.
That’s not to say your passions aren’t valuable.
Understanding your passions can help you identify what drives you and make wiser choices about what to say “yes” or “no” to. Passions often reveal the gifts and abilities God has placed within us, and they can play a key role in how we live out our destiny.
But it’s important to know: sometimes, God asks us to step away from our passions to lead us closer to our destiny.
This can be confusing. Why would God redirect us away from something we love and have us go in a direction that’s not where you want to go?
The answer lies in trust. Trusting that God’s plan is better than our own and that His path will bring His ultimate goodness to our lives.
Walking by Faith, Not by Sight
I’ve personally seen this and experienced it in my own life. Sometimes, what we thought was a plan and a destination for God to release ministry in our lives, we suddenly begin to realize was just a test to see if we trusted His goodness.
In my family’s case, “give up the house and location and go to where I will send you,” was what we heard.
We had a choice: enjoy the mega million dollar mansion, a place of comfort and rest, or go to a place where we just trust Him. Possibly giving up everything in the process!
We put our trust in the Lord and have followed where He’s led. The journey is far from completion, but I can tell you that His goodness has been more evident than ever.
God knows the desires of your heart. But there are times you must walk by faith, not by sight, to experience the goodness of the Lord.
Final Words
If you find yourself at a crossroads, wondering whether to follow your passions or step into the unknown, take a step back and seek God’s guidance. He will never steer you wrong, and His goodness will always meet you on the other side.
God’s plans are bigger than anything we can imagine, and when we follow Him, we step into the fullness of His purpose for our lives!
