God’s Promises for Those Battling Illness
A Faith-Filled Journey of Hope, Healing and Scripture Truths
When illness hits your life, it has a way of shaking everything that feels steady. A diagnosis can jolt you right down to your core—the doctor’s words echo in your mind, fear tries to creep in, and suddenly your health becomes a battleground. But even when the ground is shaking, God’s promises do not crumble. Even in the darkest valley, the Shepherd is still leading. His Word is still true.
I know this because I’ve lived it. I was diagnosed with cancer at the exact age of 40. I didn’t feel sick. I didn’t look sick. I was running a thriving tearoom business, dressing up every day, loving my life, pouring into others, and celebrating the goodness of God. But I was walking around with a quiet pain and long-term emotional toxicity from years of unseen trauma. And that silent suffering took a toll—on my body, my spirit, and eventually, my health.
The diagnosis didn’t just hit my body—it tried to hit my purpose. I had a choice at that moment: agree with fear, or agree with faith.
And I chose faith. I chose Jesus, the Healer.
Healing Is Still God’s Will Today
One of the most powerful truths I learned during that time came through a life-changing book: Healing the Sick by T.L. Osborn. It wasn’t a fluffy Christian feel-good read. It was bold, truth-packed, scripture-saturated teaching that reintroduced me to a simple but power-filled fact: Jesus is still in the healing business.
One line shook me to my core:
“If you are sick, God wants to heal you.”
Not “maybe,” not depending on how you feel about yourself, or if you’ve had a good week spiritually. Healing is God’s will. Period.
I realized something: I wasn’t begging God for something He was hesitant to give. I was believing God for something Jesus already paid for.
Let’s look at a few scriptures that carried me when my faith felt fragile:
Key Scriptures That Carried Me Through
Isaiah 53:5
“But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.”
This is not a poetic idea. It’s a legal transaction. Healing is bought and paid for. Jesus didn’t just redeem your soul—He redeemed your health.
Psalm 103:2–3
“Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.”
Forgives AND heals. In the same breath. Healing is a benefit of being His. It belongs to us.
Jeremiah 30:17
“But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the Lord.
God doesn’t just fix symptoms. He restores the whole person.
James 5:15
“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up.”
Notice those words: will make the sick person well. Faith is not denial. Faith is agreement with heaven over earth.
Romans 8:11
“And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he…will also give life to your mortal bodies.”
This one changed everything for me. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in me—and in you, if you’re a believer. That means we carry healing power in our very being.
What I Learned in the Fight
I learned quickly that healing wasn’t just a moment. It was a fight. Some days I was declaring faith. Some days I was crying myself to sleep. But I kept anchoring myself to His Word.
I had to stop letting my diagnosis be the loudest voice. I started speaking life over myself—out loud. I laid hands on my own body. I took communion at home. I played worship and refused to rehearse the enemy’s lies.
One day, I walked into an MRI room where doctors were looking to see where the cancer had spread. They were preparing me for the worst. But God doesn’t write endings based on fear.
The scan came back all clear. Not a trace. The doctors were shocked. I was not.
My God is a Healer. He didn’t just heal me physically. He healed my purpose, my identity, my voice. He set me free from pain I didn’t even know I was carrying.
My Declaration for You Today
If you or someone you love is facing illness, I want you to speak this aloud:
Father God, I thank You that You are the God who heals. I declare that sickness has no legal right to my body. Jesus paid for my healing at the cross, and by His stripes, I am healed. I speak life to every cell in my body. I speak peace to my mind. I reject fear and receive faith. Thank You, Lord, that Your resurrection power is at work in me right now. My story is not finished. My purpose is not over. I am healed, whole, loved, and called. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Final Word
God didn’t heal me just so I could go back to normal. He healed me so I could speak life into others walking through dark valleys. He didn’t just cure a disease—He resurrected my destiny. So I’ve made it my mission to point others to the One who still heals today.
If you’re in a battle right now—hold on. God is not done. Stand on His Word. Stay rooted in faith, not fear. Surround yourself with truth-tellers and hope-bringers. Declare His promises over your life.
And remember: illness doesn’t get the final chapter. His love does.
